A slide bearing can support radial loads as shown in the figure below.
The flange design also allows axial loads to be supported.
The specific bearing force is determined from the equation below.The lengths b and d can be seen in the figure above. F is the forcethat affects the bearing.
If the force and lengths are given in the units Newton and mm, the answer is obtained in MPa.The PV number is calculated as the product of the specific bearing force and the slide velocity.This number is very useful, as the ability to support loads for a bearing reduces exponentially withincreased sliding velocity.
